Shaykh Muhammad Amaan al-Jaamee: There is No Dispute About Sayyid Qutb Being an Ash'ari
Shaykh Muhammad Ammaan al-Jaamee stated about Sayyid Qutb:
The book 'az-Zilaal' of Sayyid Qutb is a tafseer that is not a tafseer based upon narrations, nor a tafseer from the language. Rather it is a composition containing a confused mixture of the ideas of the Ash'arees, the ideas of 'Wahdatul - Wujood' and the ideas of the Soofees - and he was an Ash'aree - about which there is no dispute.
So I advise small students not to read the book 'az-Zilaal', just as I advise the greater students - from the students of knowledge - to read it in order to make clear to lesser students the futility contained in it - as advice to them.

From the affairs Sayyid Qutb spoke of:
- The Qur'an is created, the saying of the Jahmiyyah, Mu'tazilah and Ash'ariyyah
- Rejection of aahaad hadeeth in matters of aqidah, the saying of the Mu'tazilah, Ash'ariyyah
- Ta'weel of al-Istiwaa with the ta'weels of the Jahmiyyah, Mu'tazilah
- Expressions of Wahdat ul-Wujood (unity of existence) of the Soofees (represented in the Ash'aris)
- Negating what he deems to be "hawaadith" (events, occurrences) which is the standard doctrine of the Ash'ariyyah in negating the Sifaat Fi'liyyah, such as al-Istiwaa.
And it is from the most amazing of affairs that a people make a display of refuting the Ash'aris and then hate, despise and detest that any particular Ash'ari and his deviations should be refuted, and the Ummah warned from his calamities?!
